The Fairy Prom Mother Offers FREE Formalwear to Denver Area Students

By Christen Reiner, Macaroni KID Lakewood-Littleton & Macaroni KID Denver Editor and Publisher February 2, 2022

There's a new hero in town.

The Fairy Prom Mother is here to make sure that all Denver Metro students have the opportunity to experience the rite of passage of going to formals like Homecoming and Prom. Lena Rowen opened her home to students in need of formal wear in May 2021, turning her basement into a boutique for Denver area youth. She operates The Fairy Prom Mother year round.

Lena's project currently receives no funding, relying on the generosity of donors. You can help by donating new or slightly used items year round, or by choosing items from their Amazon Wish List. The Fairy Prom Mother makes it super easy for donors to help keep the program up and running.

The Fairy Prom Mother embraces diversity and proudly serves students of every nationality, race, culture, disability, religion, or sexual orientation.

Appointments are available NOW for Prom and Winter Formals!

  • The Fairy Prom Mother is not responsible for alterations but can provide some resources for some affordable seamstresses.
  • The Fairy Prom Mother expects everyone to abide by the rules and treat everyone with respect. Those who fail to do so will be asked to leave, so that this may be an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

From The Fairy Prom Mother website:

"Lena Rowen, (AKA The Fairy Prom Mother) created this side project last May. Lena has always had a compassion for helping others in the community ever since her own personal experience being a domestic violence survivor, leaving her nearly homeless with her own children nearly 10 years ago.  During this time she completed her Master's degree specializing in Family and Community Services in 2014 from The University of Arizona Global Campus, as a single mother.  She worked as a Case Manager for the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless as well as the Rose Andom Center, helping women escape Domestic Violence, and housing nearly 164 homeless families. Today, Lena is a wife, and mother to her two children -her 17 year old son, and 12 year old daughter. She is currently utilizing her masters degree in working with the homeless in the Denver metro area with Catholic Charities, and working toward her PhD in Social Work at Denver University. She and her family live in Lakewood, CO. She strives to continue giving back to the community and building a solid ground for our youth in the Denver Metro Area."
