Make Your Own Watermelon Juice the Easy and Fun Way

By Christen Reiner, Macaroni KID Lakewood-Littleton, Macaroni KID Denver, and Macaroni KID Highlands Ranch-Parker-Castle Rock-Lone Tree Editor and Publisher June 10, 2026

Watermelon means summer to my family. We love the mini seedless version... just enough to satisfy our craving without too many leftovers.

Extra watermelon is not the worst thing, though, because we have PLENTY of options to easily (and tastily!) use it up. One of our favorites, and certainly the most fun, is to make our own watermelon juice. Watermelon is naturally juicy, so it's super easy to transform it from solid to liquid. The best part? The kids can do it themselves and it only takes one ingredient... WATERMELON!

Try it the next time you have extra watermelon, or even when you don't. It's worth it, I promise!

What you need:

  • Watermelon (preferably seedless)
  • One Ziplock bag per person

What you do:

  1. Cut the watermelon off the rind. It really doesn't matter how big each piece is or what shape they are.
  2. Put the pieces in a ziplock bag. I prefer to use quart size for a little extra room.
  3. Squeeze the air out of the ziplock.
  4. Squish the watermelon until most of it is liquid.
  5. Strain the liquid into a cup.
  6. Serve immediately as is, over ice, or cool in the fridge.
  7. Enjoy!

You can enjoy the watermelon juice as is, or get creative by adding mix-ins. Here's a list of mix-ins to try that pair well with watermelon:

  • Strawberries
  • Mint
  • Pineapple
  • Cucumber
  • Coconut
  • Mango
  • Bananas
  • Honey
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Chili Spice
  • Lemon

BONUS:

Host your very own Top Chef contest! Each contestant will give it their best shot at creating a watermelon juice concoction using mix-ins, and the Top Chef judges will choose their faves from anonymous entries.

Risky for the judges? 100% yes. But a ton of fun!
