Sensory-Friendly Mornings at Denver Art Museum Return for 2024

Enjoy exciting updates and expanded hours in a safe and sensory-friendly environment

January 4, 2024

The Denver Art Museum's Sensory Friendly Mornings is a program for kids with neurodiversity or sensory processing disorders to visit the museum with their families in a safe and fun way. The museum opens early at 9am, dims the lights, and provides tools to guide a sensory-friendly experience for the whole family. Visitors can explore engaging exhibitions, “meet and make” with local artists, participate in art making and therapeutic activities, and more, all in a safe and sensory-friendly environment.

This event is free with registration.

The Museum offers a number of exciting elements to Sensory-Friendly Mornings, including an additional hour, expanding to include both the Hamilton and Martin buildings, designated “sensory sanctuaries” in the activity zones, improved sensory aids (special thanks to Autism Community Store), and more.

Scheduled 2024 Events:

  • Sunday, January 14
  • Sunday, April 14
  • Sunday, July 14
  • Sunday, October 13

JANUARY'S SENSORY-FRIENDLY MORNING

Our featured "Meet and Make" artist for January’s Sensory-Friendly Morning is Moe Gram. Moe Gram is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Denver and works on a diverse array of mediums that include painting, mural, collage, and installation. She is also the co-designer and curator of the DAM’s Creative Hub. Learn more about Moe’s work at her website or follow her on Instagram.

Our friends from McNicholas Miniature Therapy Horses will be back to provide equine therapy (as well as general cuteness). Like October’s event, his Sensory-Friendly Morning will also see the addition of an extra hour, the expansion of the event to both the Hamilton and Martin buildings, and the introduction of new and improved sensory-friendly accommodations.

Please note: Sensory-Friendly Morning begins at 9 am in Hamilton. The museum opens at 10 am for general admission. Light and audio will return to regular levels at 12 pm.

All families are welcome at the Denver Art Museum! And thanks to the Bellco Free for Kids program, all visitors 18 and under enjoy free general admission to the museum daily, ensuring that more children than ever can experience the transformative power of art.
