If you are a Macaroni KID subscriber, odds are that you are a parent.

We have exciting news for you if you are... National Parents' Day is July 28!

Whether you choose to celebrate your own parenthood, or your parents, or both, you should take advantage of this excuse to whoop it up. And, of course, we have some ideas for you.

Celebrate your parenting journey

  • Enjoy a family celebration with a dinner or lunch out.
  • Get a babysitter and take the day off from parenting duties.
  • Make a list of your favorite parenting moments.
  • Create a funny parenting memories jar and add new memories throughout your journey. Sometimes you have to laugh so you don't cry!
  • Ask your friends what their favorite parenting moment was on social media. Do they have a photo to share?

Celebrate your parents

  • Call or visit them.
  • Give your parents a list (or a book, or a jar) of your best memories of them as parents.
  • Ask your parents about their parenting journey. Some sample questions could be:
    • What was your favorite parenting moment?
    • What was a not-so-great parenting moment?
    • What advice do you have for young parents?
  • Frame a family photo to gift to them.
  • Tell them that they were right about advice they shared with you when you were a kid. You will for sure make their day.

The history of National Parents' Day

There are two goals of National Parents’ Day:

  • Promote responsible parenting and encourage positive reinforcement by parents for children
  • Celebrate the sacrifices of parents and the unparalleled bond of love between parents and their children

President Bill Clinton established the holiday in 1994 by signing the Congressional Resolution that approved National Parents’ Day by law. National Parents’ Day is observed on the fourth Sunday of July every year to recognize, uplift, and support the role of parents in raising their children.

The Parents’ Day Council promotes the holiday each year. Find out more by visiting their website.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, give yourself and your fellow parents a big pat on the back. Parenting is hard work, but definitely one of the most rewarding jobs you can have. Happy Parents' Day!
